Preston North End captain Alan Browne is reportedly attracting interest from Italian side Salernitana ahead of the transfer deadline.

The future of PNE midfielder Alan Browne is one of the big talking points right now.

North End’s skipper racked up his 400th appearance for the club on Saturday, coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Millwall.

Browne has given 10 years of incredible service to North End but he is now inside the final six months of his contract.

There has been no movement or even encouragement about Browne signing a new deal at Deepdale and some fear he will walk away for nothing in the summer.

That would be a sorry state of affairs for PNE but a new rumours has emerged in Italy which suggests that Browne could end up leaving this week…

Salernitana reportedly want PNE captain Alan Browne

Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio – who tends to be a reliable source on Italian transfers – reports that Salernitana are working on a deal to sign Browne.

It’s stated that Salernitana are in talks with North End and they are hoping to land Browne ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Italy’s transfer window shuts at 6pm UK time on Thursday, so Salernitana have just over 24 hours to try and get a deal done.

Six points adrift of safety, Salernitana need big additions in order to stay afloat and they may see Browne as a vital player to help them achieve survival.

Salernitana are managed by an Italian legend in Pippo Inzaghi and we could hardly blame Browne for wanting to test himself in Serie A.

If Salernitana’s interest is serious, PNE may have to make a very difficult decision ahead of the transfer deadline.

North End have tried to tie Browne down to a new deal but time is running out to receive a fee for him, yet also a lack of time to find a replacement for such a vital PNE player.

Losing Browne would be an emotional moment and may only serve to add to the apathy from the fanbase right now, so the coming hours will be fascinating to watch as Browne seemingly receives Italian interest.
