Bambo Diaby could be on his way out of Preston North End with Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday now chasing a deal.
That is according to Yorkshire Live, who claim that Wednesday are now working on a deal to sign Diaby.
Wednesday only signed a new defender earlier this week as Di’Shon Bernard made the move to Hillsborough.
New boss Xisco Munoz is seeking more new recruits though and Diaby is becoming a key target for the Owls.
It’s worth noting that, as Munoz was finishing up his playing career with Gimnastic de Tarragona, Diaby was emerging with fellow Catalan club Cornella.
There is no record of Munoz and Diaby crossing paths but the Wednesday boss may well have kept tabs on Diaby in recent years.
Wednesday are now making their move and could hand Diaby a return to South Yorkshire having previously turned out for Barnsley.
Bambo Diaby to Sheffield Wednesday reaction
We have been hoping to see some change in the PNE backline but Diaby maybe wasn’t our guess for a departure.
North End’s back three haven’t impressed for a while now, no matter who is given the nod.
PNE look slow at the back so getting rid of the one centre back with impressive pace seems like a strange decision.
Diaby is out of contract next summer though and if PNE weren’t planning to give him a new deal, maybe it’s better to move him on now.

This expected move will only ramp up the Jack Whatmough rumours, but leaves PNE badly lacking speed at the back heading into the new season.
It’s hard to see any further changes in defence either, unless somebody comes in with an offer for fringe defender Patrick Bauer.
Diaby divides opinion with some appreciating his speed to cover at the back and others feeling he is simply too error-prone to rely on.
The 25-year-old was taken off at half time against Stockport County on Saturday and that may be his final appearance in a PNE shirt as Wednesday move in for a deal.
