Let the chaos commence.

Preston are expected to be busy today, with Ben Davies heading to Liverpool in a shock move that few would have seen coming.

Sepp van den Berg could be coming in on loan as part of the deal, with the Dutchman bolstering Alex Neil’s options at centre back.

Yet with Davies leaving, Neil could also do with a left-footed centre back to replace Davies, providing balance at the back.

One source has suggested that Stoke City’s Liam Lindsay is a target for Preston on deadline day – and Sky Sports have now backed that up.

They claim in their Transfer Centre (8:45) that Lindsay is expected to sign for Preston if Davies makes his move to Anfield today.

Lindsay is a much bigger presence than Davies at 6ft 4in tall, but he is left-footed and previously starred with Barnsley.

Since joining Stoke for £2.5million in 2019, Lindsay has found first-team football hard to come by, and hasn’t played at all this season – his last appearance for the Potters ironically came on deadline day last year, January 31st.

The 25-year-old needs a fresh start, and Preston seem willing to provide it, with Neil surely familiar with his fellow Scot, who impressed with Partick Thistle.

This is of course a gamble given that Lindsay hasn’t played a game for a year, but there was real talent on show with him at Barnsley, and he could be a fine reclamation project for North End.
