Tom Cannon has sent Preston North End fans into overdrive having watched today’s friendly win over Aberdeen.

PNE beat the Dons 2-0 at Deepdale as new signing Mads Frøkjær-Jensen stole the show with two superb goals.

This was an encouraging performance from North End and Ryan Lowe will be delighted with what he saw.

PNE fans were already celebrating one signing as striker Layton Stewart arrived from Liverpool before the Aberdeen game.

The attention quickly turned to another Liverpudlian striker – Tom Cannon.

A loan favourite from last season, Cannon impressed after joining Everton and supporters have been desperate to see him return.

Today’s developments have sent PNE fans into overdrive though, with Cannon spotted at Deepdale.

The Everton hitman wasn’t included in the Toffees squad to face Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

Everton also had an Under-21 fixture against Tranmere Rovers this afternoon, with Cannon not involved there either.

That sparked PNE fans into real hope of seeing Cannon join, despite the striker seemingly suffering from a hamstring injury.

What really set tongues wagging is that Cannon watched PNE beat Aberdeen, even posing for photos with supporters.

Maybe Cannon was just seeing old friends at Deepdale, but would Everton allow that to happen with PNE chasing his signature?

Even if Cannon is injured, would he not be watching one of two Everton games today rather than travelling to watch North End?

Cannon so openly being at Deepdale seems to be pointing towards a return to North End, which would surely be a loan deal.

Stewart’s arrival has eased PNE’s striking woes but with Ched Evans and Emil Riis still out, Cannon would be an enormous addition ahead of the new season.

Cannon’s presence has certainly excited the PNE fanbase, and we can only hope that a deal can be pushed through in the coming days.
