Preston’s Under-18’s were in action on Wednesday afternoon, but it didn’t exactly go to plan for Nick Harrison’s side.

Whilst North End have been busy in the transfer market this week with two new signings brought in, the kids had a clash with Lincoln City to focus on.

Preston were in control for much of the clash at Deepdale, but couldn’t wind the all-important opening goal – and were then made to pay.

Lincoln grabbed an 83rd minute winner as Freddy Draper sent the Imps through, with Preston crashing out in the third round stage.

This doesn’t sound so positive, but the performance of Aaron Bennett caught the eye, as he was a livewire throughout the game.

Bennett, 16, has already been in first-team training at Preston, and looks to be one of the most exciting prospects in the club’s ranks.

He featured mostly on the left flank against Lincoln, showing great close control and the desire to run at defenders, though sometimes tried to do a little too much on his own.

That decision making will come with time, but Preston fans took to Twitter to rave about the youngster, suggesting that he was ‘on another level’ to his teammates.

Others believe that he can be better than Blackburn Rovers youngster Tyrhys Dolan, who left Preston last summer, and believe that he should be involved in the FA Cup clash at Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.
