Preston North End chose not to add another left-sided centre back over the summer, but were heavily linked with Cheltenham Town’s Will Boyle.
PNE signed Liam Lindsay permanently after a decent loan spell from Stoke City.
Whilst left-footed, there are concerns over Lindsay’s ability to actually play as a left-sided centre back in a back three due to his lack of pace.
Andrew Hughes has nailed down that role this season, but PNE could look for other options in the future.

PNE’s interest in Will Boyle
Gloucestershire Live reported in May that PNE were very keen on Cheltenham Town ace Boyle.
Sheffield Wednesday backed out of the race for Boyle, but PNE maintained their interest.

Boyle starred in Cheltenham’s promotion campaign last season, being named in the League Two Team of the Year.
Formerly of Huddersfield Town, Boyle is a huge figure at 6ft 3in. A goal threat from set pieces and long throw-ins, Boyle is also impressing in League One this season.

Boyle to miss out on Deepdale trip
PNE could have seen Boyle first-hand tonight, but the 26-year-old will miss out.
Jon Palmer of Gloucestershire Live claims that Boyle is out injured tonight. The defender seemingly picked up a knock in Saturday’s win over Oxford United.
Boyle has been robbed of an opportunity to shine in front of Frankie McAvoy and co, and it’s hard to see him joining PNE in January or next summer unless North End change their approach at centre back.
