Crystal Palace fans react to Connor Wickham's PNE injury

Preston North End hammered Cheltenham Town 4-1 on Tuesday night, but Connor Wickham sadly suffered another injury blow.

Andrew Hughes and Joe Rafferty put PNE 2-0 up in the first half before Kyle Vassell got one back for Cheltenham.

Seani Maguire and Emil Riis added late goals to give North End a 4-1 win. That sends PNE into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

In what was a positive night for North End, Wickham’s injury was a dark cloud.

Wickham’s full PNE debut lasts seven minutes

New signing Wickham was handed a first start for PNE having played as a substitute against West Bromwich Albion.

After so many injury setbacks over the last few years, everybody was praying that Wickham would come through unscathed.

Unfortunately, Wickham went down with a very early injury. A high challenge from a Cheltenham player left Wickham on the deck, and he was unable to continue.

That’s truly rotten luck for Wickham, who was hoping for a fresh start at PNE.

It’s unclear just how long Wickham will be out for, but this was not the full debut he wanted.

Crystal Palace fans react

Crystal Palace fans saw Wickham suffer a host of injuries during his time at Selhurst Park. When he signed for PNE though, supporters wished him all the best.

When news of Wickham’s latest injury filtered through to Palace fans, they took to Twitter to admit they are gutted.

They just want to see something go right for Wickham, believing that he is ‘very talented’ and just needs some luck.

Hopefully that luck does still come for Wickham, who clearly has PNE and Palace fans right behind him.
