Preston North End look set to complete their fourth January signing, with Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman nearing a move to Deepdale.
Whiteman has been Preston’s leading target for weeks now, and after some game-playing between the two clubs, it seems a deal is very close.
Football Insider claim that a second bid has now been accepted by Donny, and we reported that three separate sources have told us that Whiteman’s move is on the verge of completion.

Add in that Lancs Live, the Lancashire Evening Post and the Doncaster Free Press all report that a deal is imminent, and Whiteman seems to be Preston-bound.
This is a huge addition for North End, as Whiteman has been one of League One’s top midfielders for many years now.

The 24-year-old’s arrival likely means Ben Pearson is on his way, but you can’t help but be excited by the idea of Whiteman partnering Jayson Molumby in midfield.

Preston weren’t the only side looking at Whiteman, and some feared a hijack attempt from Nottingham Forest when The Athletic reported that Chris Hughton’s men had joined the race.
Forest fans have been taking to Twitter to share disappointment at hearing Whiteman is likely to join Preston, believing that he is exactly what Forest need.
Some admitted they are ‘fuming’ with the news, slamming the club for a lack of ambition whilst stating that their refusal to match Preston’s bid is ‘crazy’.
