Preston North End just beat the deadline on Tuesday night to sign highly rated midfielder Ali McCann from St Johnstone.
The 21-year-old helped Callum Davidson’s side to a domestic cup double last season, and starred recently in a European tie against Galatasaray.
North End were thought to be quoted around £3 million earlier on in the window but have managed to sign him for much less than that. It has been suggested that the initial fee is just £1.2 million.
Celtic and Rangers are known to scoop up the best talent in Scotland on a regular basis.
It provides players with a route into European football and also the chance to play in front of packed, iconic stadiums.
However, McCann has made the choice to move south of the border and try the Championship with Preston.
It has left many Rangers fans baffled as to how and why they weren’t able to bring in McCann especially at such a reasonable price.
Celtic fans have also expressed their dismay at missing out on Ali McCann, comparing it to ‘John McGinn all over again’.
