Preston fans would surely love to see Frankie McAvoy make these three changes tonight

Preston are back in action this evening, travelling up to the Mazuma Stadium to take on Morecambe in the Carabao Cup.

North End eased past Mansfield Town in the first round, clinching a 3-0 away win to tee up this second round meeting with the Shrimps.

Frankie McAvoy’s men beat Peterborough United 1-0 on Saturday to finally grab a first league win this term, giving fans hope of more results.

Preston cannot afford to take Morecambe lightly. The League One side dumped Blackburn Rovers out of the competition in the last round, and will look at Preston as another potential scalp.

The Football Coach Who Ended A Civil War

McAvoy may need to rotate his side tonight, but he will be without the likes of Alan Browne, Ched Evans, Liam Lindsay and Tom Barkhuizen.

That may mean some fringe or young players come in – and three changes in particular could catch the attention of Preston fans.

Striker Joe Rodwell-Grant has been doing media duties ahead of the game, a possible hint that he is in line for a first competitive start for his boyhood club.

Rodwell-Grant has been with the club since the age of 11 and would no doubt love to lead Preston’s attack tonight, which seems all the more likely with Evans and Barkhuizen out.

Another teenager should be in the side, with Lewis Leigh in line for a chance.

The 18-year-old has just signed a three-year professional deal after interest from Arsenal, Everton, Leicester City and West Ham United, and has a big fan in McAvoy.

Browne’s absence means Leigh may be needed in midfield, and there may even be an opportunity for Jamie Thomas.

Preston’s very own Roy of the Rovers needs minutes, and game time against Morecambe could be vital as he looks to get up to speed in the Championship.

Thomas has only just come up from non-league, so the only way to get him fit enough for Championship action is to play him in these games.

Fans want to see young players and new boy Thomas given chances, and would surely love to see McAvoy include all three of them in the team tonight.

Preston predicted XI: Rudd; Rafferty, Van den Berg, Bauer, Hughes, Cunningham; Leigh, Potts; Thomas; Rodwell-Grant, Riis.
