Preston head to take on Middlesbrough in the Championship tonight, but they will be robbed of a reunion with Darnell Fisher.
The mood around North End is less than positive right now, and boss Frankie McAvoy needs win tonight to ease the pressure on his job.
Preston must now go and find a result against Chris Wilder’s Boro side, who drew 1-1 at Millwall.
Boro’s squad list is full of recognisable players. The likes of Neil Taylor, Lee Peltier, Jonny Howson, Paddy McNair, Sammy Ameobi and Sol Bamba have been Championship regulars for years now.
You will also see the name of Darnell Fisher in the Boro squad, but you won’t be seeing him against Preston tonight.
Fisher was sold by Preston last January – a decision that left many fans frustrated.
The right back had been a key player under Alex Neil, and instead of extending Fisher’s contract, Preston chose to sell on the cheap.
Fisher’s supposed replacement, Matthew Olosunde, has yet to play a competitive game for North End.
Fisher immediately featured for Boro, but suffered a major knee injury over the summer.
A friend slipped and landed on Fisher’s leg, and he is now expected to miss the entire season.
That means Preston will miss out on playing against Fisher tonight and most likely when the two sides meet in May too.
At least Fisher can’t come back to haunt us tonight, and we can only wish him the best in his recovery.
