Preston North End claimed a much-needed victory against Coventry City on Wednesday night, with Ben Whiteman playing a starring role.
Preston simply had to win. They couldn’t afford to go into Saturday’s game against Blackpool off the back of a defeat.
Tyler Walker’s first half goal had Coventry in front at the break, but whatever Frankie McAvoy said at half time worked.
MAN UNITED HAVE TO SACK OLE NOW.
Preston grabbed two goals in a rousing second-half display, with Patrick Bauer equalising before an Emil Riis winner.
One key McAvoy decision paid dividends. The Scot brought Whiteman back into his midfield after benching him for the previous two games.
Whiteman was superb in Preston’s midfield’s almost playing as a lone holder whilst Alan Browne and Daniel Johnstone got up and down the pitch.

Whiteman not only supplied the cross for Bauer’s goal, but also recorded another five key passes.

The 25-year-old protected his back four with three interceptions, proving to be effective at both ends of the pitch.
Preston fans have been taking to Twitter to praise Whiteman’s display, suggesting that he should be the first name on the team sheet moving forward.
Others called Whiteman ‘outstanding’ and ‘superb’ having run the show in midfield.
Maybe’s McAvoy’s call for more from Whiteman has worked wonders.
