Emil Riis off the mark after injury return

Riis made his return from a year-long injury lay-off in December and has nailed down a starting role in recent weeks.

The Dane found his first goal since his comeback on Saturday, scoring a superb solo goal against Cardiff City to open the scoring.

Riis seems to be forming a promising partnership with Will Keane in the PNE attack and he will be hoping to repeat the trick against Boro on Wednesday.

Boro know all about Riis as he boasts a simply incredible record against Michael Carrick’s men.

Riis has faced Middlesbrough five times as a PNE player and has scored five times, scoring in four of those outings.

A brace on the final day of the 2021-22 season lives in the memory, as does a powerful volley in a 2-1 win over Boro last season.

Riis has played so well against Boro over the years that they even launched a bid to sign him in 2022, believed to be worth around £7.5million.

PNE kept hold of Riis and can now unleash him on Boro once again on Wednesday night as he looks to recapture his best form; the form which saw Boro make that move to sign him.

Saturday’s goal should give Riis major confidence and he will surely be excited to take on Boro, potentially adding to his stunning record against the Teessiders.
