Preston’s search for a new manager means they have discussed a move for Michael Carrick just days after his Manchester United exit.
That’s according to a report from The Sun, who claim that Carrick is one name in the frame at Deepdale.
It’s stated that Carrick’s name is being discussed inside North End as a possible appointment this week.
North End parted ways with head coach Frankie McAvoy on Monday night and now want a quick replacement.
A new boss is expected to come in before Saturday’s game against Barnsley. The Lancashire Evening Post even claim that Preston know who they want, and that person is currently in a job.
That doesn’t quite line up with Carrick, though North End are understood to have backup targets.
Carrick, 40, was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff at Manchester United.
When Solskjaer was sacked last month, Carrick took over on an interim basis.

Carrick only had three games in charge but beat Villarreal and Arsenal, with a draw at Chelsea in between.
Carrick is a well-regarded coach who may now look for his big managerial break elsewhere having announced his United exit on Thursday.
A Champions League winner and five-time Premier League winner at United, Carrick had a glittering playing career.
Carrick could absolutely do worse than Preston for his first managerial job, but he doesn’t seem to be North End’s top target right now.
