Andrew Hughes jokes Peter Ridsdale needs to sign ‘unbelievable’ player permanently for Preston

Preston defender Andrew Hughes has jokingly called on Peter Ridsdale to sort out a permanent deal for Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.

North End first signed Iversen in January 2021 following an injury to Declan Rudd, with Preston long holding an interest in the Dane.

With Mike Pollitt added as a goalkeeper coach, the move made so much sense; Pollitt had worked with Iversen on loan at Rotherham United in the 2019-20 season.

Iversen immediately excelled in the Preston side, performing so well that North End extended his loan for another year.

Iversen has now become one of the top goalkeepers in the Championship, regularly producing outrageous saves to keep opponents at bay.

We saw that earlier this month as Iversen made a string of superb save against Hull City, most notably with a flying save to deny Tom Eaves from close range.

As things stand, Iversen is heading back to Leicester City this summer and his future there appears a little unclear.

Kasper Schmeichel is their clear first-choice goalkeeper whilst Danny Ward offer quality backup behind the Dane.

Iversen has aspiration of playing for Denmark and sounds very close to being in their next squad after talks with Kasper Hjulmand.

In order to play for Denmark regularly, Iversen will need first-team football. Preston can give Iversen a starring role, something that other clubs may not.

Now, Preston defender Hughes has told BBC Radio Lancashire that director Ridsdale now needs to look at Iversen’s save against Hull and get him to sort out a permanent deal.

Hughes called Iversen ‘unbelievable’, a view many Preston fans would agree with, and the onus will soon be on Ridsdale to try and bring Iversen back for good.
