Preston have parted ways with Frankie McAvoy and former North End striker Neil Mellor has offered his reaction to the news.
North End confirmed on Monday night that McAvoy has left the club following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
McAvoy failed to strike a connection with supporters and the style of play was fairly disappointing throughout.
With just six wins in 21 league games under McAvoy this season, Preston just haven’t been good enough.
McAvoy has now paid with his job having failed to turn interim success in long-term prosperity.
McAvoy joined Preston alongside Alex Neil in 2017 having worked together at Norwich City.
When Neil lost his job in March of this year, McAvoy took the reins on an interim basis. With five wins, two draws and one defeat in his eight games in charge, McAvoy ended the season brilliantly.

That hasn’t translated to his season and Preston are now searching for another new manager.
Former Preston striker Neil Mellor has taken to Twitter to offer his verdict on McAvoy’s departure.
Mellor branded McAvoy a ‘top bloke’, feeling it’s a real shame that things didn’t work out for him at North End.
Mellor wished McAvoy all the best for the future, with a return to football surely on the cards.
