Preston will see Jayson Molumby leave the club this summer for a return to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The January loanee arrived with major excitement having excelled at Millwall last season, and started well in a Preston shirt.

He has though been a victim of a team lacking in confidence and consistency in selection, and it looks unlikely that the Irishman will be back next season.

Lancs Live note that Preston considered another midfielder in January, and that was Middlesbrough’s Lewis Wing before he headed on loan to Rotherham United.

We understand that Preston did look into a move for Wing around the same time that Molumby was signed, as we reported in January, but the Irishman was brought in instead.

Wing immediately went and impressed against Preston with Rotherham. He set up the Millers’ opener at Deepdale and then teed up their second in a 2-1 win.

The 25-year-old is impressing at Rotherham, and is the Millers suffer relegation, they may not be in a position to keep hold of him.

Preston also looked at Wing in 2018 according to The Northern Echo, suggesting that he has been a long-term target at Deepdale.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Preston target Wing again this summer, this time as a permanent midfield addition when Molumby heads back to Brighton.
