Preston are closing in on Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe as Frankie McAvoy’s replacement – and appear to have landed him for a bargain fee.

North End parted ways with Frankie McAvoy on Monday night after a 1-0 defeat to rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Preston are moving quickly to land a replacement and Lowe is now expected to make the move to Deepdale soon.

It’s not often Preston buy managers out of their contracts, so fans will be wondering just how much North End are paying for Lowe.

Lowe is contracted to Plymouth until 2024, but the compensation doesn’t sound too bad.

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook claims Preston are paying just £250,000 in compensation to land Lowe.

For context, that’s just a third of the compensation Preston landed for Simon Grayson in 2017.

That fee likely would have been a little larger if assistant Steven Schumacher was coming with him, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Many fans will be happy with that price tag and with the appointment of Lowe in general.

Lowe has two promotions from League Two on his CV, taking Bury and then Plymouth up to League One.

Lowe also has Plymouth sitting fourth in League One right now. The Pilgrims are chasing promotion but Lowe is heading to Preston.
