Preston are closing in on the appointment of Ryan Lowe as their new boss – but assistant Steven Schumacher isn’t expected to follow him to Deepdale.
North End sacked Frankie McAvoy on Monday night and are moving quickly to replace him.
A deal for Lowe appears to be close as the Plymouth Argyle boss prepares for a move back up north given that he hails from Liverpool.
Many would have expected that Lowe would bring coaches with him to Preston, especially Steven Schumacher.
Schumacher was a first-team coach for Lowe at Bury and then his assistant at Plymouth.
The 37-year-old is another Liverpudlian but looks set to stay at Plymouth instead of following Lowe to Preston.
Football Insider claim that Schumacher will instead take over from Lowe as Plymouth boss.

Schumacher will be looking to carry on Lowe’s fine work at Plymouth, taking his first managerial job in the process.
Lowe may be gutted by that news having been so close with Schumacher for a while now.
Let’s hope this isn’t a Brian Clough/Peter Taylor style situation where the assistant not being there becomes a problem, and we will now wait and see whether Lowe brings anybody else to Deepdale.
