Preston have been linked with a surprise move for Sheffield United midfielder Regan Slater, but it now seems that Wigan Athletic are now in the race.
North End were linked with Slater over the summer after shining on loan at Hull City last season.
The rumours re-emerged in December, with new claims that Preston were interested in signing Slater.
Rotherham United are keen too, whilst Hull want to bring Slater back to the KCOM Stadium too.
There is now a new team in the mix, with the Sheffield Star reporting that Wigan Athletic are keen to sign Slater.
It sounds like Slater will be on his way out of Sheffield United, but we would be hugely surprised if he ends up at Preston.
Yes, over the summer, a move for Slater made some sense.

Preston were seeking another midfielder to offer competition for Ben Whiteman and Ryan Ledson.
North End found that player though, paying a seven-figure fee to sign Ali McCann from St Johnstone.
McCann has shown promise for Preston but wasn’t even used against Stoke City on Monday with Ryan Lowe preferring Whiteman, Daniel Johnson and Alan Browne in midfield.
Adding another holding or box-to-box midfielder just doesn’t add up for Preston, with the ship surely sailed on a deal for Slater.
