Preston’s search for a left wing back goes on, with Wigan Athletic now set to keep hold of rumoured North End target Tom Pearce.
Greg Cunningham turned in a superb performance at left wing back against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night, playing a huge role in both goals in the 2-0 win.
Still, boss Ryan Lowe has admitted that he would love another left wing back to come in and play in his 3-5-2 system.
One of the main names linked earlier in January was Wigan ace Tom Pearce, with Alan Nixon claiming Preston’s interest.
Pearce is out of contract at the end of the season and North End were seemingly eyeing a cut-price raid.
Despite shining last season, Pearce has found first-team football hard to come by this term and has started just six League One games.
The 23-year-old, formerly of Leeds United, racked up eight assists in all competitions last season and has still managed four this term.
That seemingly put Pearce on Preston’s radar, with Nixon well-connected at North End.

However, Football Insider now claim that Pearce has agreed a new contract and will be staying at Wigan for the foreseeable future.
That deal will be for two-and-a-half years, overriding his current deal rather than extending it, meaning he will sign on until 2024.
With Ali Koiki in talks with Sunderland and Jake Bidwell gone to Coventry City, the left wing back pool is narrowing for Preston.
Pearce staying at Wigan would take another name off the list, and it’s looking more and more like a left wing back won’t be joining before Monday’s deadline.
