Preston are likely to be in the market for another new striker in January, with Motherwell’s Tony Watt the latest name linked with a move.

North End seem to be in the market for a striker in every transfer window – they’re always just the hardest players to sign.

Since the start of January 2018, Preston have brought in six strikers either on loan or permanently.

Louis Moult, Lukas Nmecha, Jayden Stockley, David Nugent, Emil Riis and Ched Evans have all come in. Even Andre Green and Scott Sinclair – not naturally strikers – have arrived and played up top.

Riis has been a great success, but he needs a regular partner. Evans, Seani Maguire, Sinclair and Tom Barkhuizen have all had a go with mixed results.

New boss Ryan Lowe wants to play 3-5-2, meaning Riis needs partners – and Watt is allegedly wanted.

Football League World claim that Preston want to sign Motherwell hitman Watt, but face a real battle.

Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City are also thought to be interested in signing Watt.

Watt, who turns 28 later this month, is out of contract next summer and Motherwell just can’t match offers from the Championship.

Watt has been in sensational form this season, bagging 10 goals in 23 outings for Motherwell.

Formerly of Celtic, Watt has also turned out for Lierse, Standard Liege, Charlton Athletic, Cardiff City, Blackburn, Hearts, OH Leuven, St Johnstone and CSKA Sofia in a somewhat nomadic career.

Preston were recently linked with Well boss Graham Alexander, but could instead pinch his leading striker.
