The transfer rumours are beginning to gather pace for Preston North End now.
Matthew Olusunde was one name to be linked today, and now Izzy Brown has been another.
Lancs Live have suggested Preston are considering a move for the former Chelsea player.
Capable of playing across the front line, it’s certainly an area Frankie McAvoy will be looking to improve. The club needs to add some creativity and some pace, and it’s about time some younger players were brought into the club that had a potential resale value. Brown ticks all those boxes, but has failed to live up to his very early potential.
Brown made his Premier League debut for West Bromwich Albion when he was just 16 years old in 2013. Later on that year he was bought by Chelsea with the transfer fee settled via a tribunal.
Of course, as Chelsea do with so many of their young players, Brown was sent out on loan starting with their Dutch affiliates Vitesse Arnhem. He has since had further spells in England mainly in the Championship with Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Luton Town, and most recently, Sheffield Wednesday.
Chelsea have decided to release him this summer and Brown will now look to settle somewhere and kick on at the age of 24. He hasn’t been the most prolific of attacking midfielders in his career so far, scoring just 10 goals. He does pop up with a number of assists, collecting eight of those for Luton in the 2019-20 season.
The signing makes sense for Preston. On a free transfer, his wage demands won’t be too high, and he could become a key player for North End. Several loan spells don’t always bode well for a player though, and he may take time to settle in his new home.
Izzy has been highly rated from a very young age, and perhaps that has always been hanging over him. In some ways it would be a similar transfer to Josh Harrop back in 2017. Highly rated from a top club, but Brown would arrive with a lot of Championship experience under his belt.
