Liverpool right back Calvin Ramsay is reportedly set to sign for Bolton Wanderers after leaving Preston North End earlier this month.

In what has been a very quiet transfer window for PNE, the departure of wing back Calvin Ramsay has arguably been the biggest story around the club.

Ramsay joined PNE on loan from Liverpool last summer and appeared to be the ideal player to come in and compete with Brad Potts at right wing back.

The 20-year-old dazzled with Aberdeen in Scotland and tempted Liverpool into spending up to £6.5million on his signature back in 2022.

Ramsay missed most of last season through injury though and he endured a nightmare spell at Deepdale.

The Scot made just one league start and suffered injury and illness before Liverpool recalled him earlier in the January window.

Ramsay isn’t going to be a first-team player though, and Liverpool have been looking to send him elsewhere with a new loan now allegedly imminent.

The Daily Mail now report that Ramsay is nearing a move to League One promotion-chasers Bolton Wanderers.

The Trotters have built up a strong relationship with Liverpool in recent times having helped develop full backs Conor Bradley and Owen Beck.

That connection appears to have paid off for Bolton now as Liverpool are set to send Ramsay to work under Ian Evatt.

Bolton currently sit second in the League One table and are just two points off top spot with two games in hand.

It’s stated that Leeds United made an approach for Ramsay but the guaranteed playing time at Bolton appears to be the clincher.

Seeing Ramsay join a promotion contender in the Championship would have really stung after his lack of impact at PNE.

A move to League One won’t cause quite as much concern but we could see Ramsay play a part in a a promotion-winning campaign with Bolton – and who knows, he could impress to land a longer stay with Wanderers and maybe even face North End next season.
