Preston North End fans are excited once again as Everton close in on signing a new striker – which could free up Tom Cannon.
The Championship season is just a few days away now and PNE still need a number of additions.
The key signing needed is another striker to partner Will Keane up top.
Fans have been hoping to see Tom Cannon return but that has been a real rollercoaster over the last week or so.
Cannon was spotted at Deepdale for the home friendly with Aberdeen last weekend.
That sparked real hope that Cannon would be re-joining PNE on loan from Everton having spent the second half of last season at Deepdale.
Nearly 10 days on, there has been no update on Cannon’s potential return to North End.
We have seen various claims in the fanbase suggesting that Cannon is coming back, that the deal is off, that the move will actually be permanent; nothing seems final just yet.
Still, PNE fans have been hoping for positive news on the Cannon front once Everton sign a new striker.

That now appears to be coming closer as Fabrizio Romano reports that Everton are on the verge of signing Sporting striker Youssef Chermiti.
The 19-year-old target man is heading for Goodison Park with a ‘deal in place’ between the two clubs.
Chermiti’s expected arrival may well free up Cannon to go out on loan and we would hope that PNE are at the front of the queue.
Hopes are on the rise again with North End fans now keen to see Chermiti’s move to Goodison Park go through without a hitch.
Other clubs will want Cannon but PNE supporters are expectant; if he goes elsewhere, North End fans will rightly question just why on earth he was so publicly on display for the Aberdeen game.
