Leeds United could now pounce to sign Calvin Ramsay from Liverpool after his loan spell at Preston North End came to an end this week.
What looked like being an exciting addition will now go down as one of the more forgettable PNE loan signings.
North End snapped up Calvin Ramsay on loan from Liverpool back in June, but he only joined up with PNE in July.
The 20-year-old cost Liverpool up to £6.5million with a move from Aberdeen a year earlier and had shown huge potential in Scotland.
An attack-minded wing back with big potential, Ramsay seemed like just what PNE needed – but he never got going at Deepdale.
A couple of injury setbacks, a struggle with illness and then simply not being picked ahead of Brad Potts, Ramsay had a disappointing time with PNE.
After just one league start, Ramsay left PNE earlier this week with parent club Liverpool recalling him and potentially looking to send him elsewhere…
Leeds United now interested in signing Calvin Ramsay
PNE could see Ramsay make a rather swift return to the Championship with promotion-chasing Leeds United now interested.
The Daily Mail (18/01, p69) claim that Leeds are looking towards Ramsay as a potential signing as they look to land another right back.
Leeds did take Djed Spence on loan for the first half of the season, but sent him back to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month to pave the way for his move to Genoa.
The Whites are now looking for somebody to replace Spence and appear to be eyeing up Ramsay after his exit from Deepdale.

The Scot is still a highly-rated talent and was actually wanted by Leeds during his Aberdeen days, so maybe their interest isn’t a huge surprise.
PNE face Leeds this weekend so, unless a quickfire deal can be thrashed out, it looks like Ramsay won’t be involved against North End any time soon.
Eyebrows will be raised if Ramsay joins Leeds though, having barely been seen in a PNE shirt.
For Ramsay to not even be in the matchday squad at times and then join a promotion-chasing Leeds side would leave supporters baffled as to why he didn’t make an impact at North End.
This was certainly an underwhelming spell for Ramsay but he could bounce back with Leeds, pushing for promotion to the Premier League.
