PNE-linked wing back travelling for Middlesbrough medical

Preston North End seemingly won’t be signing SC Cambuur wing back Alex Bangura with Middlesbrough on the verge of a deal.

The transfer deadline fast approaching and we’re now seeing plenty of rumours and business ahead of the deadline.

Leeds United talent Sam Greenwood was linked with a move to PNE on Wednesday but he completed a loan move to Middlesbrough earlier today.

Middlesbrough are also heavily linked with a move for Tom Cannon and are poised to sign another rumoured PNE target.

Voetbal International in the Netherlands report that Cambuur star Alex Bangura is set to sign for Middlesbrough.

It’s stated talks between Cambuur and Middlesbrough are now ‘so advanced’ that the left back has permission to undergo a medical.

Bangura has allegedly prioritised a move to the Championship over interest from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs over in France.

Bangura is into the final year of his Cambuur contract and Middlesbrough appear to have some up with a suitable offer.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph claimed earlier in August that PNE were keen to snap up Bangura but faced competition from Swansea City.

Sky Sports added just a couple of weeks ago that Saint-Etienne had failed with a £645,000 offer to sign Bangura.

Boro appear to have gone higher and are now on the verge of landing their man.

The Sierra Leone international has impressed as an attack-minded left back having previously been a winger.

That kind of ability would have been welcomed in Ryan Lowe’s system given his usage of wing backs but North End will have to look elsewhere.

Kian Best has done a decent job at left wing back this season but with Robbie Brady injured – and historically suffering from injury problems – PNE would be wise to bring in another option there.

All the focus seems to be on finding a new striker but we would love to see another left wing back too, even if it won’t be Bangura.
