Preston want Antonios Papadopoulos and have an offer on the table for the Borussia Dortmund talent which could reach around £1.3million.
North End are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer but no incoming deals have been completed.
Bambo Diaby has signed a new deal but fans are waiting for a real signal of intent in what should be a big summer window.
There have been many rumours in recent weeks – some with a semblance of truth and others a little more wild – and there are now links to Dortmund talent Papadopoulos.
Preston want Antonios Papadopoulos
German newspaper Bild – generally one of the more reliable sources in Germany – report that Preston are trying to sign Papadopoulos.
It’s stated that Papadopoulos is set to leave Dortmund this summer and has offers from both Preston and Luton Town.
The report claims that Papadopoulous is close friends with Erling Haaland and could now follow the Manchester City-bound striker to England.
Papadopoulos, 22, joined Dortmund from Hallescher FC last summer and spent most of last season in Dortmund’s second team.
A defensive midfielder or centre back, Papadopoulos did also play three times for Dortmund’s first team.
The fee for Papadopoulos would allegedly be €1.5million (£1.3million), which would be a considerable outlay for North End.
This seems a random link for Preston but there could be some weight to it.
Ryan Lowe hinted that Preston were looking around Europe for potential signings and Papadopoulos could have popped onto the radar.
MRKT Insights will have plenty of data on young players around the continent and that may be how Papadopoulos became a target.
Luton have also had dealings with MRKT Insights through Jay Socik, so the rumour that both teams want Papadopoulos may make some sense.
Rumour rating: 6/10 – this one seems a little left-field for Preston but Bild are pretty reliable and the input from MRKT Insights may mean that talents like Papadopoulos are on the radar.
