Report claims Preston have now made loan offer for Newcastle's Freddie Woodman

Preston are keen on Freddie Woodman and have now reportedly gone as far as making a loan offer for the Newcastle United goalkeeper.

North End have a number of big needs in the transfer market this summer but few are as big as bringing in two or even three goalkeepers.

Connor Ripley, Mathew Hudson, Oliver Lombard and Declyn Duggan have all been released this summer whilst Declan Rudd has retired.

Player of the Season Daniel Iversen is heading back to Leicester City this summer and seemingly won’t be returning.

That means Ryan Lowe must now rebuild Preston’s goalkeeping ranks and there is an ambitious target in mind.

Preston are keen on Freddie Woodman

The Sun reported on Sunday that Preston have a loan interest in Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

Lowe’s assistant Mike Marsh worked with Woodman during two years at Swansea City and he could be key to any deal.

Woodman, 25, was tipped for big things at one stage but has seen his development stall due to lack of playing time.

Woodman is down the pecking order at Newcastle and a January loan move to Bournemouth resulted in just one appearance.

The goalkeeper looks set for another loan move and Preston’s interest allegedly goes further than just fancying Woodman.

The Northern Echo now claim that Preston have made an offer to take Woodman on loan for the season.

Newcastle are seemingly weighing up that offer and much will depend on what Woodman wants to do next season.

Woodman has Premier League ambitions and has now spent two-and-a-half years on loan in the Championship.

Few could blame him for feeling that he has done all he can in the second tier and needs to challenge himself elsewhere.

Preston will hope that Woodman fancies coming and being first-choice stopper at Deepdale though, and his arrival would be a huge signal of intent under Lowe given his proven Championship quality.
