Preston were linked with Lynden Gooch but the American has now decided to sign a new contract with Sunderland.
North End need to find a right wing back this summer with Matthew Olosunde placed on the transfer list.
Brad Potts filled in admirably there last season but it’s now time for a natural right wing back to be brought in.
The likes of Cyrus Christie, Marlon Fossey and Nathan Byrne have been linked but no deals look imminent on that front.
BALE TO NEWCASTLE?! | Newcastle United 22/23 POTENTIAL XI WITH NEW TRANSFERS
Preston were linked with Lynden Gooch
Another name mentioned was that of Sunderland ace Gooch after their promotion from League One.
Gooch was more of a winger or playmaker but ended up playing as a right back or right wing back for Sunderland.
The 26-year-old became an important player under Alex Neil and ended the campaign with six assists in 45 games.
Gooch’s contract came to an end this summer and there were rumours about his future.
Wales Online claimed earlier this month that Preston were keeping tabs on Gooch’s situation whilst Swansea City were also keen.
Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas backed up those claims, suggesting that Preston were keen to sign Gooch.
In the end, it’s all come to nothing as Gooch has – rather predictably – signed a new contract with Sunderland.
Gooch has penned a new two-year deal with Sunderland, keeping him at the club until 2024.
That’s a boost for Sunderland as they prepare for life in the Championship again, but it’s may not one that Preston will lose any sleep over.
North End may have had a look at Gooch but this link does smack of an agent trying to get the best deal out of Sunderland.
Gooch will now be staying put on Wearside as Preston’s search for a new right wing back continues.
