Sheffield Wednesday ace reacts after PNE rumours this summer

Sheffield Wednesday defender Dominic Iorfa isn’t paying attention to transfer rumours after surprise links with Preston North End.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported in July that PNE were interested in bringing Owls defender Iorfa to Deepdale.

It was suggested that North End were in an unexpected battle with Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb for Iorfa’s signature.

That seemed like a surprise rumour at the time given that PNE already had six centre backs.

Both managers – Ryan Lowe and Xisco Munoz – completely denied the rumours and that was that.

There was some wheeling and dealing to come though as defender Bambo Diaby was offloaded, somewhat ironically, to Wednesday.

Some wondered whether Iorfa could arrive in the opposite direction, but PNE instead signed Jack Whatmough following his departure from Wigan Athletic.

Unless there is a shock departure in the coming days, it’s hard to see PNE having an interest in luring Iorfa to Lancashire.

The 6ft 4in defender – formerly of Wolverhampton Wanderers – has now commented on his future after seeing those North End rumours,

Iorfa has told The Sheffield Star that he was aware of the speculation but he was never really too focused on the rumours.

Iorfa ignored all of it in order to try and focus on Wednesday as they look to stay in the Championship.

The 28-year-old added that he and his family are completely settled in Sheffield now and certainly isn’t angling for a move away.

“There were a few things said over the summer, but nothing that I really paid attention to,” said Iorfa. “You get all sorts, especially during the transfer window, and we’ve had it before… For me, though, I wasn’t really thinking about any of it.”

“I’ve been here a while, this is my sixth season now, and I’d like to think that I’m settled here. I know the club really well, and it’s about focusing on the job at hand for me now.”

“Whatever happens in the future happens, but I’m here, I’m trying to give my best, and give 100%… I’ve been here a long time, I’m really settled in the city, both my kids are born here, I’m happy – I’m happy in Sheffield, and me and my missus are very settled here,” he added.

It sounds like Iorfa isn’t looking to move on from Wednesday right now but he is inside the final year of his contract.

A decision on his future will have to come soon enough but we would be surprised to see him in a PNE shirt any time soon.
