Southampton are now believed to be interested in signing Liverpool talent Calvin Ramsay after his Preston North End loan came to an end.
Here we are again; Calvin Ramsay is being linked with a promotion-chasing Championship side.
Ramsay’s loan spell at PNE came to an end earlier this month having failed to make an impact after joining from Liverpool.
Last week, we saw Leeds United linked with a move to take Ramsay on loan for the second half of the season.
The Daily Mail now state that Southampton are joining the race for Ramsay and are keeping an eye on his situation ahead of the transfer deadline.
The Saints have now gone 21 games unbeaten and are considering moving to sign Ramsay to aid their promotion push.
Liverpool will have to weigh up Ramsay’s next move but Southampton may not offer guaranteed first-team minutes to the Scot.
Southampton already have a top right back in Kyle Walker-Peters and Ramsay would probably have to play as a backup to the former Tottenham Hotspur ace.
Ramsay barely played for PNE so Liverpool will be wary of that risk as both Leeds and Southampton emerge as contenders to sign him.
Seeing Calvin Ramsay sign for a promotion contender would sting for PNE fans
Ramsay was seen as the ideal signing to come in and compete with Brad Potts for the right wing back spot at PNE.
A £6.5million signing for Liverpool in the summer of 2022, Ramsay impressed as an attack-minded right back for Aberdeen.
Ramsay missed most of last season though and he just couldn’t make an impact at North End.

A late arrival for pre-season, an injury blow, a bout of COVID – everything that could have gone wrong for Ramsay pretty much did and it was no surprise when his loan came to an end.
Potts has looked exhausted of late though and not even giving Ramsay a chance in Championship action feels like a shame; the Scot managed just one league start in his time at PNE.
Seeing Ramsay go from barely featuring for North End to signing for a promotion-chasing team – either Leeds or Southampton – would leave many questioning just why he didn’t receive more chances to shine.
Injuries and illness set him back, but Ryan Lowe indicated in December that Ramsay just wasn’t being picked – not even for the bench.
PNE are now left short at wing back and could yet see Ramsay play a role in a promotion charge, which would only bring more questions about why we barely saw him in a North End shirt.
