Preston need to find themselves another striker, but don’t expect to see Rochdale striker Stephen Humphrys joining if new reports are to be believed.
Before the end of the season, The72 reported that Preston were keen on signing Humphrys following Rochdale’s relegation from League One.
The 23-year-old managed 11 goals in 31 games last season whilst also notching four assists, shining despite failing in the battle against the drop.
Formerly of Fulham, Humphrys surely won’t be playing in League Two next season, and North End made some sense as a potential destination.
Preston need another striker, Humphrys has potential, wouldn’t break the bank and is relatively local – but he’s seemingly not coming to Deepdale.
Football League World are today reporting that Wigan Athletic are on the verge of signing Humphrys, pairing him up with fellow new recruit Charlie Wyke in attack.
The Latics are showing some ambition with their recruitment this summer, and beating Championship clubs to the signing of Humphrys is a step in the right direction for them.
For Preston, it’s another striker option to tick off the list as Frankie McAvoy and co attempt to find help for Ched Evans and Emil Riis.
