Former Preston North End midfielder Josh Onomah could finally find a new club with a move to Bolton Wanderers now believed to be in the pipeline.

PNE pounced to sign Josh Onomah on deadline day in last year’s January transfer window as Fulham terminated his contract.

Onomah had been something of a wonderkid at Tottenham Hotspur but needed a fresh start away from Fulham.

Having been on the fringes at Craven Cottage, it took a while for Onomah to really get going in terms of his fitness levels.

Onomah only managed four starts and nine substitute appearances in a PNE shirt after signing a deal until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old showed flashes of his quality but ended up leaving over the summer in rather strange circumstances.

PNE did offer Onomah a new contract and he actually agreed terms according to North End’s statement upon the midfielder’s exit.

North End cited ‘complications’ which delayed the deal going through and PNE ended up walking away, moving onto other targets in late June.

Onomah has yet to find a new club more than six months since leaving PNE and he could now end up with Bolton Wanderers.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Bolton are ‘taking an interest’ in signing Onomah to bolster Ian Evatt’s squad.

Onomah has attracted interest from Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City since leaving PNE but League One may not be his destination with the Trotters.

Bolton sit second in League One and may see Onomah as the kind of talent who can help secure promotion to the Championship.

Onomah certainly has the ability in his locker but the last 18 months have been tricky for him and he needs to get back on track.

PNE surely won’t have any lingering interest despite putting a contract on the table less than a year ago, but we could soon see Onomah finally return to action if Bolton make a move.
