Preston were linked with Ali Koiki in the January transfer window – and the transfer window ended without him completing a move to Sunderland.

North End were looking to bring in a left wing back during the January window, but chose not to make a move in the end.

Ryan Lowe indicated he wanted a ‘speedy’ option at left wing back, but Preston weren’t going to force the issue.

There will surely be a summer move in that area, with Northampton Town ace Koiki allegedly on Preston’s radar.

Football Insider reported in January that Preston were eyeing up Koiki as a potential solution at left wing back.

Out of contract this summer, Koiki may have been viewed as a bargain addition having impressed at Northampton this season.

The former Burnley talent – who actually scored 10 goals for Burnley’s Under-23’s in the 2019-20 campaign – has become a dangerous left wing back.

Koiki was in talks to join Sunderland ahead of the transfer deadline, but the deadline passed without Koiki actually making the move.

Sunderland parted ways with Lee Johnson and plans may have changed following his departure.

That means Koiki remains at Northampton until the end of the season, but still looks unlikely to sign a new contract with the Cobblers.

Preston now have a few more months to track Koiki and weigh up a summer deal for the 22-year-old, with North End definitely in the market for another wing back.
