Report: Preston could now miss out on James Hill as Barcelona join transfer race

Preston North End have shown an interest in James Hill, but the Fleetwood Town defender is now wanted by Barcelona.

Preston were in the market for defensive options over the summer.

The likes of Osaze Urhoghide and Udoka Godwin-Malife were linked as Preston looked for a centre back who could also play at right back.

Hill was another one, and you can understand why Preston were interested.

The 19-year-old is the son of former Preston favourite Matt Hill and has been starring down the road at Fleetwood.

Now an England Under-20 international and called up for the Under-21’s, Hill is on a path stardom.

Football League World reported that Preston do want to sign Hill, but we understand the interest faded with Sepp van den Berg returning on loan from Liverpool.

Preston may have hoped to sign Hill once Van den Berg’s loan is over, but that possibility seems to have flown out of the window.

The Mirror claim that La Liga giants Barcelona now want to sign Hill and scouted him against Burton Albion last month.

Catalunya or Lancashire? Few would pick the latter.

Add in that Liverpool, Manchester United and Rangers are also keen and Preston surely have no chance now.

As far as missed opportunities go, this could end up going down as one of the big ones for North End.
