Report: David Moyes wants to sign ex-Preston loanee Stephy Mavididi for West Ham

West Ham United want Stephy Mavididi as David Moyes plots a move to sign the former Preston North End loanee this summer.

Preston fans will remember Mavididi from his arrival at Preston back in the summer of 2017.

Alex Neil wanted a speedy threat in the final third and moved to sign Mavididi on loan from Arsenal.

Mavididi arrived with a burgeoning reputation and had dazzled Charlton Athletic fans in a superb loan spell there.

Mavididi wasn’t able to bring that same skill and nonchalant ability to Preston though.

With no goals in 11 appearances for Preston, Mavididi didn’t really live up to his billing in a North End shirt.

Since leaving Preston though, Mavididi has been on an outstanding trajectory.

Juventus Under-23’s signed Mavididi in 2018 and he was loaned to Dijon just a year later.

Montpellier swooped in to sign Mavididi permanently and it now looks like a Premier League move could be on the cards.

Fabrizio Romano now claims that West Ham have made contact with Mavididi’s representatives to explore a potential deal.

Brighton, Everton, Southampton and Marseille are also keen with Mavididi potentially on the move again this summer.

The 24-year-old bagged eight goals in 30 games for Montpellier this past season.

West Ham boss David Moyes still has Preston close to his heart and he may well remember Mavididi from his 2017 spell.

This isn’t the first time that Moyes has eyed up a former Preston player for West Ham, with Ben Davies and Josh Brownhill previously on his radar.

Mavididi didn’t exactly shine for Preston but maybe Moyes remembers some promising attributes from him.

We could soon see the versatile attacker carve out a Premier League career, just as former loanees like Andy Carroll, Josh King and Danny Welbeck have in years gone by.
